Space-based Glaciology

Satellite measurements of ice movements and height changes from space allow us to characterize the dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets with unprecedented accuracy and temporal and spatial resolution. We are using such measurements to infer what controls ice motion and the eventual loss of ice, with the goal of both understanding how glaciers and ice sheets have behaved in the past and improving the models that are used to predict their future.

Space-based Observatories

We use a variety of satellite instruments to characterize Earth's global environment (e.g., clouds and ice sheets) and how it changes. For example, we use satellite measurements to determine how the mass balance of the Greenland ice sheet changes over time.
